Boy, 2, run over by ride-on lawn mower rushed to hospital

A toddler has been air-lifted to hospital after he was run over by a ride-on lawn mower in a Hunter Valley yard on Monday morning.

According to NSW Ambulance, the two-year-old boy suffered significant injuries to his lower legs during the ordeal at Clarence Town - between Maitland and Dungog.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said three paramedic crews and a specialist medical team were sent to the home at Sheriff Street about 9.30am before the boy was taken by helicopter to Westmead Children's Hospital in a stable condition.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Jason Saper praised the fast response of those nearby when the scene unfolded.

"These types of incidents can be extremely complex and it shows just how quickly any situation can change," Inspector Saper said on Monday morning.

"Bystanders did a fantastic job of assisting [the toddler] until paramedics arrived.

"Paramedics were able to work together with other emergency services under these challenging conditions to do everything they can for the young boy."
