Boy, 2, airlifted to hospital in serious condition after being hit by car

A toddler was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after being hit by a car near Rochdale.

Police, paramedics and an air ambulance were called to Whitworth at around 5.30pm yesterday (October 20).

It came following reports of a collision between a Nissan Juke and a child on Cowm Park Way South.

Lancashire Constabulary confirmed a two-year-old boy was taken to hospital in a 'serious condition'.

The road was closed was several hours for investigation works, Lancs Live reports.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing into the incident.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at around 5.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, October 20th) to reports of a collision between a child and a Nissan Juke on Cowm Park Way South, Whitworth.

"The child – a boy aged two – has been taken to hospital by air ambulance in a serious condition.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing into the incident.

"Anybody who witnessed it or has dashcam footage and has not yet been spoken to by police or is asked to call 101, quoting log 1137 of October 20th."
