A person is in custody after a 17-year-old boy was shot Thursday in South Shore.

The teen was in a lot about 3:30 p.m. in the 7500 block of South Colfax Avenue when someone fired shots in his direction, Chicago police said.

The boy ran away and realized he had been struck, police said. Officers responded to a call of shots fired about three minutes later and saw two males shooting.

One of the suspected shooters was taken into custody after a brief foot chase, police said. A weapon was recovered and charges are pending. The other suspect ran off.

The boy took himself to Jackson Park Hospital about 6 p.m., police said. His condition was stabilized.

Area South detectives are investigating.
