Boy, 17, fighting for life after being stabbed in 'mass brawl of 20 youths'

A 17-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed in a mass brawl.

The teen suffered "life-threatening injuries" during a fight in Bolton on Friday night.

Police say they were called to Church Street, Westhoughton at about 9.15pm, following reports of a "disturbance and what was believed to be a large group of people fighting".

The 17-year-old is understood to be in a critical condition.

Witnesses said up to 20 young people had been fighting at the scene, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Two large puddles of blood could be seen on Market Street, one in a bus stop, the other close to a wall.

A nearby skip, where a knife is believed to have been discarded, was cordoned off.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

A scene remained in place on Saturday morning.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.
