Boy, 16, stabbed to death 'over fake Gucci bag' is 28th teen killed in London this year

A 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in West London yesterday is the 28th teenager to be killed in the capital this year.

Ashmeet Singh suffered fatal knife wounds in Raleigh Road, Hounslow, and died at the scene of the stabbing despite the efforts of emergency services.

Some of his friends believe he was stabbed over a fake Gucci pouch he always wore, it has been reported.

Police set up a cordon and forensics have been collecting evidence today.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

The victim's next of kin have been informed as formal identification awaits.

A resident nearby said he saw the police cars arrive at 9pm last night and questioned why anyone would carry a knife, My London reports.

Mr Nadeem said: "My condolences to the poor boy's family, when will this stop? Why are people carrying knives with them in this estate?"

A local shopkeeper said he was asked to provide CCTV and was shocked as he knew the victim, who he described as "a good guy".

He told the Evening Standard : "His friends are all saying he was stabbed over this Gucci bag, it wasn’t even real. It’s terrible.

"I wish I had heard something or he had run to me. I would have pulled down the shutters to keep him safe - I had the staff to handle it."

A friend, Daljit Singh, described Ashmeet as a caring son who always looked after his mum.

Daljit said: "She was crying outside this morning. All over a Gucci bag that’s not worth anything."

The Metropolitan Police said: "A murder investigation is under way following a fatal stabbing in Hounslow.

"Police were called to Raleigh Road, Southall at 21:07hrs on Wednesday, 24 November to reports of a stabbing.

"Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service (LAS).

"A male, believed aged 16, was found with stab wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene a short time later.

"His next of kin have been informed; formal identification awaits. Homicide detectives from Specialist Crime have been informed. There have been no arrests. Enquiries are ongoing."

Last week, 14-year-old Jermaine Cools was stabbed to death near West Croydon train station.

At the end of October, another teenager was knifed on Harrow Road in Ilford and died at the scene.

In June, Jalan Woods-Bell, 15, was killed in Hayes, West London, as he made his way to school.

Ashmeet is the 28th teenager to be killed on the streets of London in 2021 - a shocking death toll that is close to the peak of 29 teen homicides recorded in the capital in 2008.
