Boy, 16, stabbed after men seen chasing people with 'giant' knives on the Curry Mile

A teenage boy was stabbed following reports a group of men were seen chasing people with 'giant knives' on the Curry Mile.

Witnesses first reported seeing a man chasing after another man with a blade 'like a machete' on Wilmslow Road, Rusholme just before 7pm on Monday evening.

Then, two masked men wielding knives were seen coming from a different direction, forcing shoppers to run to safety.

Just half an hour later, at 7.30pm, a 16-year-old boy was knifed on Denison Street.

He was rushed to hospital with a slash wound which is 'not believed to be life threatening', a GMP spokesman said.

An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, was on a bus when he saw the drama unfold on the street below.

He said: "I saw someone running so fast away from someone else with a giant knife like a machete, and then two different men with balaclavas on came running from the opposite direction with a knife.

"This one was in a black knife case that he drew out, passersby were terrified and ran into the nearest shops for safety."
