Boy, 16, fatally shot after crossing out gang graffiti in Compton

Sept. 10--Detectives are looking for two people in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy who was crossing out gang graffiti in a Compton neighborhood Wednesday.

The boy, who has not been identified, was crossing out the graffiti in the 1600 block of Largo Avenue at 11:40 a.m., when two people in a black vehicle pulled up next to him, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

One of the passengers chased the boy north on Largo, but couldn't catch up to him. The driver of the vehicle sped toward the boy and fired two shots through the front passenger window, officials said.

The boy was struck twice in the upper torso, according to authorities. He was declared dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger fled before deputies arrived in the neighborhood, they said.

Detectives said the shooting appears to be gang related.

Anyone with details about the shooting is urged to call the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
