Boy, 16, charged with murder of 46-year-old dad in Battersea

Iderval da Silva, 46, was attacked by teenagers on bicycles as they attempted to steal his scooter in a Tesco car park in Battersea

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a father who died after he was attacked in south-west London.

Iderval da Silva, 46, was found by emergency services with a head injury on Charlotte Despard Avenue, Battersea, at around 4.30pm last Saturday.

The Brazilian died in hospital on Tuesday, Scotland Yard said.

Police said they believed he was attacked when he confronted a group of youths who were trying to steal his moped.

A teenager from Wandsworth, who cannot be named due to his age, was charged on Thursday and will appear before magistrates in Wimbledon on Friday.

Friends of Mr da Silva, who had a 26-year-old son, said he arrived in London three months ago and had been working for Uber Eats.

He was from São Paulo and had served in the Brazilian army and taught capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art.

His friend Silva Rodge, 41, told the Standard: “He was the friendliest man I’ve ever met. He helped people and asked for nothing back.

"He was alone and came to London to be close to his friends."

A 19-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident, police added.

Former boxer Ian Tomlin, 46, was killed after confronting drug dealers on the same street last October.
