A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder in a shooting earlier this month in west suburban Aurora that left a man dead.

The teen, whose name was not released, turned himself into police on Sunday after he was charged in the Feb. 8 shooting death of 20-year-old John H. Smith in the 400 block of Sherman Avenue, Aurora police said in a statement.

Police said the boy entered an apartment about just before midnight and shot Smith in the chest during an argument. He died later at a hospital.

The boy was taken to the Kane County Youth Home, police said.
