Boy, 16, charged in connection with murder of homeless man in Kilmainham, Dublin

A teenage boy will appear in court today charged in connection with the murder of a homeless man.

The body of the Romanian man in his 40s was discovered in a laneway off Madison Road in Kilmainham in Dublin's south city in the early hours of Monday morning.

It is understood that the victim, a foreign national in his 40s, was attacked and his mobile phone was stolen.

He sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in relation to the incident, which took place off the South Circular Road at about 1.30am on Monday morning.

A garda spokesperson revealed this morning that the teen who was arrested has been charged.

They said: "The male juvenile arrested in relation to the murder of a man in a laneway off Madison Road, Kilmainham, Dublin 8 has been charged.

"He is due to appear before the Dublin District Children Court at 10:30am this morning, Tuesday 15th September 2020."
