Boy, 16, charged as adult in Humboldt Park shooting: police

A 16-year-old boy will tried as an adult in a Wednesday shooting that wounded a 38-year-old man in Humboldt Park on the West Side.

Two teens, ages 15 and 16, each face a felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm, according to Chicago police. The 15 year old is being tried as a juvenile.

They allegedly came up to the man who was walking in the 3900 block of West Augusta Boulevard, police said.

One of them pulled out a gun about 3 p.m. and fired one shot, striking him in the back, police said. He taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in fair condition.

The teens were arrested by officers less than a block away in the 900 block of North Springfield Avenue, police said. A witness to the shooting was able to identify the teens.

The 16 year old was in court Thursday, police said.

The Cook County state’s attorney’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.
