Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder after a woman was shot dead in Hackney, east London.

Lianne Gordon, 42, died at the scene after police were called to the incident in the early evening on 5 December.

A 20-year-old man and another boy, also 16, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They have since been discharged.

The Metropolitan police said the teenager was detained in the early hours of Friday morning and remained in custody.

DCI Jo Yorke, from the Met’s specialist crime command, said: “While this arrest marks a significant development in this investigation, I would like to reiterate my appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

“I have a team of dedicated and experienced officers working tirelessly to ensure Lianne’s family and friends get the answers they so desperately need; if you can help then please get in touch.”

.

Police have not said whether Gordon was the intended target but it is believed police are investigating the possibility that her killing was accidental. The three people shot were believed to have known one another but were not related, the Met added.

Detectives believe the woman who died and the two males who were wounded were found outsidea property in Vine Close, and also believe that is where the shooting may have taken place.

It is understood that other people were at the property besides the three victims at the time of the shooting.

Tributes to Gordon were left beside a police cordon, with one message in a card describing her as a “beautiful soul”.

Official figures show that 97 homicides have been recorded in London this year, including the Hackney shooting, compared with 103 killings in 2022.
