Boy, 15, suffers serious head injury in bike fall as street is cordoned off

A 15-year-old boy is in hospital with a serious head injury after falling from his bike this weekend.

Police were called to the incident on Portland Street in New Brighton at around 3:45pm on Saturday, June 13.

A spokesperson from the force said the teen was travelling down the street when he fell from his bike.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident but the road remained cordoned off for several hours by officers, while the boy was taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries.

The road was reopened by police at around 7.15pm on Saturday.

The 15-year-old remains in hospital today, June 15, where his injuries are descried as being serious but non-life threatening.

Photos taken at the scene on Saturday, show the police cordon in place on Portland Street, while the bike can be seen left at the side of the road.

The circumstances surrounding the fall are not yet known.
