Boy, 15, riding e-bike dies after crashing into ambulance following police pursuit

A 15-year-old boy who was riding an electric bike has died after crashing into an ambulance following a police chase.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Langworthy Road in Salford, Manchester, this afternoon after the fatal crash.

The road was closed for a few hours as serious collisions investigators remained at the scene. An ambulance with a smashed windscreen was at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed officers followed the teenager, who was on an electronic bike, as he rode along Fitzwarren Street onto Lower Seedley Road in Salford.

Bollards prevented the police vehicle from continuing to follow him, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Moments later, there was a collision between the teenager and an ambulance - and the boy sadly died.

A spokesperson for the police force said: "At 2pm today, GMP traffic officers began following a boy riding an electric bike along Fitzwarren Street onto Lower Seedley Road in Salford.

"Bollards prevented the police vehicle from continuing to follow the rider. A short time later, a road traffic collision occurred between the cyclist and an ambulance.

"A 15-year-old boy sadly died. The incident has been referred to the IOPC who will leading the investigation."
