Boy, 15, guilty of wild cop pursuit

A BOY, 15, who led police on a wild, high-speed pursuit in a stolen Honda Civic jam-packed with eight other teenagers is behind bars after pleading guilty in Broadmeadow Children's Court.

The boy, who cannot be identified, was behind the wheel of the stolen Civic when it was spotted speeding on the Hunter Expressway by highway patrol officers about 11.15am on Wednesday.

The vehicle was going more than 200km/h, triggering a pursuit from Minmi to Wallsend, before it was terminated.

The vehicle was later spotted a number of times across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie before being dumped in Arthur Street at Cardiff.

Police established a perimeter and arrested nine people, including a 19-year-old woman and eight teenagers aged between 13 and 17.

Subsequent checks revealed seven of the group were from the Western Sydney lockdown zone and police issued all nine teens with penalty infringement notices.

The 15-year-old boy appeared in Broadmeadow Children's Court last week where he pleaded guilty to police pursuit, reckless driving, stealing a motor vehicle and not giving particulars to another driver. He did not apply for bail and it was refused. The matter was adjourned to Parramatta Children's Court on August 11.
