Boy, 15, dies after being ambushed by youths 'with knives as shots rang out'

A 15-year-old boy has died after he was attacked by a group of youths 'armed with knives' as shots rang out in Birmingham.

The boy was "set upon" by the group in the Handsworth area of the city on Thursday just after 3.30pm and was rushed to hospital where he died from his injuries.

Witnesses say shots were heard and the suspects were armed with knives during the attack before the killers fled in a white car.

The car crashed into a house a short distance away but the occupants fled the scene, reports Birmingham Live.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Chief Inspector Alastair Orencas, from the homicide team, who is leading the inquiry, said: "This level of violence in broad daylight on a residential street is inconceivable, let alone the fact that the target was a 15-year-old boy.

"We are leaving no stone unturned in our search for those responsible and I ask anyone who knows who they are to contact us.
