Boy, 15, 'caught carrying knife' near East Kilbride police station

A teenage boy was allegedly caught carrying a blade near to East Kilbride police station over the weekend.

Officers received a number of calls from concerned members of the public claiming a male was in possession of a knife.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm on Saturday.

A short time later it is alleged police traced a 15-year-old boy with a bladed weapon on Andrew Street in the town centre.

A report has been submitted to the children’s reporter in relation to allegations of possession of an offensive weapon and culpable and reckless conduct.

Meanwhile, a man was allegedly caught with a three-figure sum of cocaine in his car on St Leonards Road.

Police stopped the vehicle shortly before midnight on Thursday and recovered what was believed to be £300 worth of the Class A drug.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on warrant and detained to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court this afternoon.

Officers also had cause to stop a vehicle on Glasgow Road in the early hours of Friday morning.

It is claimed controlled drugs worth a three-figure sum, believed to be cannabis, was recovered from within.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and reported to the procurator fiscal for various offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Fresh plea for information after boy, 12, hit by car in Strathaven  

Elsewhere, an East Kilbride man was arrested near a Loch Lomond wedding venue for allegedly assaulting a police officer and hurling sectarian abuse.

Police arrived at The Cruin in the early hours of April 28 in response to a report of a male walking along the A82 road.

The 31-year-old was traced within the grounds of the venue and when spoken to by officers became aggressive.

He was then arrested for alleged sectarian abuse towards officers and police assault for spitting at a male officer’s face.

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
