Boy, 15, arrested on suspicion of hacking PayPal accounts as police raid house

A teenage boy was arrested on suspicion of hacking PayPal accounts after specialist cyber-crime officers raided a house.

Detectives from the Cyber Dependent Crime Unit assisted by Matrix officers made the arrest yesterday after executing a search warrant.

During a search of a home on Astley Road, Knowsley, high-value technology goods were seized.

These included the latest iPhones, an Apple Watch, Samsung and Sony mobile phones, and an iPad and Apple Airpods.

A mini motorbike was also seized during the raid.

A 15-year-old boy suspected of hacking a number of UK PayPal accounts this year was arrested of suspicion of Section 1 of the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

Merseyside Police has issued advice on reducing the chances of becoming a victim of this type of crime by recommending that PayPal users set up two-factor authentication on their accounts.
