A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of gun possession, police have confirmed.
Officers searched a home in Whiston this afternoon in connection with the investigation.
Pictures showed units from the specialist MATRIX squad in attendance at the scene.

Police attended a property on Gresford Close, off Copperwood Drive, just after noon on Wednesday.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police confirmed a boy, aged 15, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Section One Firearm and said: “He has been taken into custody and will be questioned by police.
“Officers remain in the Gresford Close area while further enquiries are carried out.”
