A 15-year-old boy was arrested after Broadgreen Hospital received a threatening email yesterday.
Staff at the hospital were alerted to the threatening email yesterday afternoon which they passed on to police.
The ECHO understands that staff were reportedly told to stay in the hospital, during the incident and to stay on their wards.
This afternoon, police confirmed a 15-year-old boy, from Liverpool, was arrested on suspicion of malicious communications a short time after the email was received by the hospital.
The boy has since been released under investigation.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We have arrested a male in connection with an incident of malicious communications yesterday, Tuesday 26 May.
"At around 4.10pm, it was reported that Broadgreen Hospital had received a threatening email.
"Following enquiries, a 15-year-old boy from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of malicious communications a short time later.
"He has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue."
Liverpool University Hospitals Trust, which runs Broadgreen hospital, said it had acted quickly to deal with the threat.
The Trust said it was working closely with the police as they carry out further investigations.
A spokesperson for Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We reported the contents of an email we received to Merseyside Police yesterday afternoon and they acted quickly to deal with the individual concerned.
"We are working closely with the police on their investigation."
