Boy, 15, arrested after trolley launched onto busy M8 causing motorist to crash at 70mph

A teenager has been charged after trolleys were launched onto the busy M8 from an overhead bridge.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to the scene at Junction 10 near Glasgow Fort at around 5.40pm on January 5 when a car collided with one of the shopping carts.

Driver Ryan Duke, 22, thankfully escaped serious injury but said that his Citroen C3 was left “practically undriveable” after crashing at 70mph.

Cops launched an investigation into the shocking incident and have now charged a 15-year-old boy in connection with the culpable and reckless conduct.

Enquiries remain ongoing to trace any other individuals involved.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 15-year old-male from the local area has been charged with culpable and reckless conduct in relation to this incident.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Enquiries are ongoing to identify other youths involved.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on 101 quoting incident reference 2142 or January 5, 2021.
