Boy, 14, stabbed as families enjoyed bank holiday sun at Crosby Beach

Teenage girls were reported to have been left covered in blood after a 14 year-old boy was stabbed near the sand dunes at Crosby Beach this evening.

Witnesses reported seeing as many as ten police cars, as well as vans and ambulances arrive at Crosby Marina and the surrounding area from about 5.45pm.

One on-looker said: "We had taken the kids out for the afternoon but police wouldn't let us past.

"People are saying youths were involved and someone had been stabbed.

"We take the children here most weekends and I've never seen this many police here."

Another witness told the ECHO: "I was told there were teenage girls covered in blood, who said their mate a 14-year-old boy had been stabbed quite badly.

"He's apparently not in a good way and had passed out.

They said the offender made off prior to police arrival and that the victim was treated at the scene and has now been taken to hospital for assessment.

The area was packed with families enjoying the sunny bank holiday weather at the time.

Detective Inspector Paul Parry said: “We initially believe that this was a targeted attack, and one which thankfully appears to have resulted in minor injuries. In these early stages we are looking to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anyone running off. This happened at the far side of the lake as you walk from the sand dunes. If you were here, let us know and check your devices for any inadvertent recording on phones of those involved. It could be vital.

“Given the victim’s age and the open location on a warm, public holiday, I understand the concern that this incident will cause amongst people who live, work and visit the area.

“My assurance to them is that, like all violent crime, we will be doing everything possible to identify those responsible and put them before the courts. Knife crime can and does have awful consequences for victims, perpetrators and their families and we will act on all you know to take these people and their weapons off the streets.”
