Boy, 14, in hospital after being hit by suspected drug driver

A 14-year-old boy is in hospital after being hit by a suspected drug driver in south Manchester.

The incident happened on Hollyhedge Road in Wythenshawe at around midday today (Wednesday).

Witnesses described a major response from the emergency services and a large cordon in place near the Martinscroft Metrolink stop.

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to reports of a collision and found a teenage boy with injuries.

He has been taken to hospital in a condition that is not believed to be life-threatening.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service confirmed: "A 14-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with head and leg injuries after he hit was hit by a car."

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and is in custody.

GMP said in a statement: "Officers were called around 12pm today (Wednesday 14 July 2021) to a report of a collision on Hollyhedge Road, Manchester.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries established a pedestrian - a teenage boy - had been in collision with a vehicle."

"He was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

"A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He remains in custody for questioning."
