Police have charged a 14-year-old boy after a fatal car crash in Far North Queensland on Monday.

It is alleged a white hatchback was being driven in the Cairns suburb of Manoora around 1am when the driver lost control of the car.

The vehicle allegedly crossed northbound lanes of traffic on Pease Street before crashing into a tree near Saltwater Creek.

Another boy travelling in the car died at the scene.

The 14-year-old has been charged with a range of offences, including manslaughter.

He has been denied bail and will appear in the Cairns Children's Court this week.

Another 14-year-old boy was also charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, relating to the same incident, and with burglary.

He appeared in the Cairns Children's Court today.

Investigations are ongoing with oversight from the Ethical Standards Command.
