Boy, 14, attacked by 'spineless cowardly scumbags' while shopping with friend

A 14-year-old boy was left with serious injuries that required surgery after being attacked by a large gang of youths.

The unprovoked attack happened in Cheshire Oaks shopping centre on Friday.

The teenager was walking with a friend around 6.15pm when he was reportedly attacked from behind by a gang of at least ten "young people".

Posting on Facebook, the victim’s mum called the attackers “spineless cowardly scumbags” for the assault on her son while he was “minding his own business”.

The victim is said to have suffered serious injuries including a broken nose and leg.

He was taken to hospital where he is said to be awaiting surgery.

The victim’s mum ended her post with the message to the gang who attacked her son: “I really hope your mums are proud of you.”

Confirming the cowardly assault, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “Shortly after 8.30pm on Friday 4 September police received a report of a boy having been assaulted by a group of young people at a retail outlet in Ellesmere Port.

“The incident – which occurred earlier that night, at around 6.15pm – left the 14-year-old local boy with serious injuries.

“He was taken to hospital to be treated.

“Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing.”
