A 13-year-old boy was shot when two people fired into a car he was sitting inside on Satuday night in Englewood.
The boy was in the passenger seat of the parked car about 8:20 p.m. when two people dressed in all black crept through a vacant lot in the 7300 block of South Racine and fired toward the passenger side of the car, Chicago police said.
The driver sped off and pulled over at 69th and Racine, where they were met by paramedics, police said. The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital with a gunshot wound to his hip.
Officers searched the lot for evidence with their flashlights and placed yellow markers in the dirt as detectives walked the alley behind the vacant lot, where the shooters ran after firing. At least eight shell casings were recovered.
The attack happened about two hours after another shooting in Englewood that left six people wounded, including two children.
Area South detectives are investigating both shootings.
