Boy, 13, repeatedly stabbed by four men in Asda car park making a 'good recovery' in hospital

A boy of 13 who suffered serious injuries in a brutal knife attack in a supermarket car park is making a good recovery in hospital, the M.E.N. understands.

He remains in a stable condition in hospital but is improving and police expect him to make a good recovery from his injuries.

When he first went into hospital, he was said to be fighting for his life in a 'critical condition' but since then his condition has stabilised.

He was stabbed several times at Asda in Longsight on Saturday night.

The emergency services were called to Stanley Grove just after 7.10pm following reports that a boy had been stabbed.

Police are continuing to hunt for the men who attacked him.

Four men, armed with 'large bladed weapons', were seen to approach the boy before attacking him and fleeing towards Stanley Grove.

All four men are described as wearing dark tracksuits with hoods.

One of the men was wearing a black gilet over his tracksuit with the hood up. The tracksuit had Adidas white stripes on the arms and legs and he wore a Gucci bag across his body.

He was wearing a black face mask with a black and white patterned bandana on his head.

Police have launched a hunt for the attackers and have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.

Patrols have been stepped up in Longsight and detectives are trawling through CCTV to identify and trace the culprits.

Detective Inspector Daniel Hadfield said: "This incident was nothing short of shocking. A 13-year-old boy has suffered some very serious injuries at the hands of four men, and we're doing everything we can to trace those responsible.

"I understand incidents like this cause concern within the community but I want to stress that we have a team of detectives carrying out several lines of enquiry including area searches and CCTV analysis.

"A cordon remains in place today whilst enquiries are carried out at the scene.

"Dedicated patrols are also positioned throughout the local area. They are there for you, so please approach them with any questions or concerns you may have and they'll try to assist you in the best possible way.

"Our thoughts are very much with the boy and his family as he recovers in hospital and I want to appeal directly to the public as this happened in quite a public space - did you witness this attack or see anyone acting suspiciously nearby around the time of the attack?

"If so, please get in touch as soon as possible as even the smallest piece of information could prove vital to our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4409 or 101 quoting incident number 2457 of 30/01/2021, or ring Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
