Boy, 13, left with a broken leg following hit-and-run near Chester-le-Street

A 13-year-old has been left with a broken leg following a hit-and-run in County Durham.

The teenager was knocked down by a vehicle after stumbling into the road on Front Street, Great Lumley, at 8.30pm on Friday.

The small black vehicle, which was travelling from Great Lumley towards Chester-le-Street , failed to stop at the scene following the collision.

The boy was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where he received treatment for a broken leg.

A Durham Constabulary spokeswoman said: "We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who may have seen a small, black vehicle in the area at the time of the incident.

"We do not know what the make or model of the vehicle was, but believe it could have been a black Toyota Yaris or something similar."

Anyone with any information should call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 427 of October 18.
