Boy, 13, dies after being recovered from River Gryffe

A teenage boy has died three days after being recovered from a river in Renfrewshire.

The 13-year-old was in a critical condition in hospital after being recovered from the River Gryffe on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services rushed to the river near to Auchans Farm at around 6:50pm on June 2. The teenager was pulled from the water and rushed by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

However, officers have confirmed the youngster has now tragically passed away. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a teenage boy in the River Gryffe near to Auchans Farm around 6.50pm on Wednesday, June 2.

“The boy was recovered from the water and was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where he died on Saturday, 5 June, 2021.

“Enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
