Boy, 13, attacked with hammer by gang in Monton

A 13-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being 'attacked with hammer by a gang of youths' near a residential street.

Police rushed to reports that a teenager had been assaulted with a hammer by a group in Monton, Eccles at around 6pm on May 24.

Paramedics remained at the scene for almost an hour and the boy had to been taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Three 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

They have since been released under investigation.

Officers have appealed for any information that may help their enquiries.

Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 6.05pm on Sunday 24 May 2020 police were called to Stanier Avenue in Eccles to reports that a teenager had been assaulted with a hammer by a group of youths.

"The teenager – a 13-year-old -boy – went to hospital with minor injuries. He has since been discharged."

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said paramedics were called to the scene at 6.12pm and remained in Stanier Avenue for 55 minutes.
