A 13-year-old boy has appeared at Highbury Corner youth court in London, charged with the murder of a 53-year-old man.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.
The boy is accused of killing Christopher John Barry on Sunday after an altercation in a block of flats where the victim was living in Edmonton, north London.
Barry died of a single stab wound to the chest. Paramedics were called to the address but he was pronounced dead at the scene half an hour after they arrived.
Magistrate Christine Chamberlain told the 13-year-old that he would remain in detention at a youth establishment until his case comes to trial at the Old Bailey on 6 January next year.
