Boy, 12, in serious condition after being hit by car while riding an electric scooter

A 12-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in a Liverpool street.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Hylton Road and Verney Crescent, Allerton, to reports that a black Ford Fiesta had been in a collision with a young boy on an electric scooter.

The child has been taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital for treatment and his condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.

The driver of the stopped at the scene and is assisting police with the investigation, Merseyside Police told The Mirror.

The incident happened at around 10.30am this morning, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Eyewitnesses at the scene have described a large police presence in the area as well as an air ambulance.

It was reported the boy was taken to hospital in an ambulance with a police escort.

Forensic markers were placed on the ground close to the scene.

Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses.

Hylton Road is currently closed between Heath Road and Hardinge Road but is expected to reopen shortly.
