Boy, 12, hasn't been to school in seven months after being turned down eight times

A desperate mum has accused a council of behaving “diabolically” as her son has not set foot in a classroom since July last year.

Jodie Tyrrell says she took son Mason out of his school in Bradford last summer due to "constant detentions" and him being put in isolation several times

Afterward Mason, 12, was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has since been turned down for places at eight separate schools.

Jodie says she is now at her wits' end because she has had to give up work in order to look after Mason who has been stuck at home ever since.

Jodie, of Clayton, Bradford, claimed she was promised private tuition for Mason but it did not happen.

She told Yorkshire Live: “I am really mentally and emotionally exhausted. I had to leave my job so I can be at home with him. I just feel helpless. I come off the phone crying.

"I am having to chase them (Bradford Council schools team) all the time for answers - they don't get back in touch."

Jodie says Mason is missing out on his education as well as missing friends and is fearful Mason will be stuck at home for many more months before a suitable school can be found.

Adding she believes her son has been ignored, she said: “He doesn't grasp the effect it is having on him. He has lost friends and social skills.

"I thought it was a rule that every child should have an education.

“It feels like we have been brushed under the carpet."

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: "We cannot comment on individual cases but we highly value and recognise the importance of education and are fully committed to working with parents and schools to ensure that children have their needs identified and met.

"We are more than willing to continue to meet with Jodie and will be contacting her to resolve the concerns."
