Boy, 11, rushed to hospital after being hit by car outside school

A boy was rushed to hospital with a leg injury after he was hit by a car outside a school yesterday afternoon.

Officers were called out to Knowsley Park Lane in Prescot at around 2.45pm on Tuesday, to reports an 11-year-old was hit by a Kia Picanto.

The driver stopped at the scene but the schoolboy sustained a leg injury and was taken to hospital.

Knowsley Park School and The Prescot School are both located on Knowsley Park Lane, and residents recently took to Facebook to raise concerns over traffic in the area in a community group.

The Prescot School posted on Twitter earlier this month to remind parents to slow their speed and be aware of people crossing the road when dropping off or picking up their children.

They tweeted: “REMINDER: When dropping children off at school, parents must drive at a slow speed and be mindful of pedestrians crossing the road. We also ask that you remind your children to be aware of traffic and road safety. Thank you.”

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirming the accident said: “We were called at 2.45pm yesterday to reports of a collision between a car and a male pedestrian on Knowsley Park Lane.

“The pedestrian, an 11 year-old boy, was taken to hospital with a leg injury.

“The driver of the car, a Kia Picanto, stopped at the scene.”
