Boy, 10, taken to RVI after he is hit by a car outside social club

A 10-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Kenton.

The schoolboy was taken to the RVI by ambulance after being knocked down outside Kenton and District Social  Club on Wednesday.

"Shortly before 6.15pm yesterday. police received a report of a collision on Rowan Drive, Newcastle," said a Northumbria Police spokesperson.

"It was reported that a 10-year-old boy had been struck by a car.

"The boy was taken to hospital with minor injuries."

It is understood checks were carried out on the driver at the scene, including a breathalyser.

The driver was not arrested and officers are treating it as an accident.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 18:04 on the 18 September to an RTC involving a boy and a car outside Kenton and District Social Club on Rowan Drive in Kenton Bar.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and a rapid response paramedic and transported a boy to the RVI.”
