Boy, 10, stabbed in random street attack as he walked with mum in Leicester

Police are searching for a man who stabbed a 10-year-old boy as he walked along a street in Leicester with his mum yesterday in a random attack.

The horrific attack happened at around 5.20pm on Saturday in Belper Street, Belgrave, when the boy and his mum were approached by a man - who stabbed him and ran off, LeicestershireLive reports.

A member of the public called emergency services and the boy was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where his condition is described as none life-threatening.

His mother was thankfully unhurt in the incident, although she was very shaken.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned Asian man, in his mid-20s, around 5ft 10in tall, chubby and wearing a brown jacket.

A police cordon was in place in Belper Street but it has since been removed.

Detective Inspector Tim Lindley said: "This was an act of violence against a young child who was out, in the street, with his mother.

"It happened in a residential area at a time of day when there would have been people about, either on foot or driving through.

"We need to find who was responsible for injuring this boy.
