A 10-year-old boy has died after being mauled by a dog at a holiday caravan park in Cornwall.

Police were called to Tencreek Holiday Park in Looe shortly before 5am today.

They found the boy unresponsive inside a caravan on the site. He had been attacked by a dog.

Police said the dog involved was of a "bulldog-type" breed.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

Police arrested a woman aged 28 three hours later in Saltash, Cornwall, 15 miles away from the caravan park.

She is being held in custody on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control and manslaughter.

The dog was taken into kennels.

The boy's family are being supported by police officers, Cornwall police said.

The 10-year-old’s death comes just days after another tragic attack in which a six-week-old baby boy was mauled by a dog in Hawick, Roxburghshire.

The boy's mother Lucy Donaldson, 28, was “hysterical” and “ran screaming for her life” after finding her infant son injured, neighbours said.

The new-born was flown to hospital following the shocking attack on Thursday, and is currently in intensive care.

It is understood by the Daily Record Ms Donaldson had left her son in the care of her sister's partner, who owns several terriers.

The baby was said to have been injured while he was out of the room.
