Boy, 10, loses his leg after being bitten by shark while snorkelling with family

A young boy had to have part of his leg amputated after a shark attack during a snorkelling trip.

Jameson Reeder Jr, 10, was on holiday with his family when the predator suddenly bit him up to his knee.

The family believe the culprit was a huge 8ft bull shark hunting in the shallows.

In the wake of the attack the family got the young victim into their boat and as they attempted to stem the bleeding with a tourniquet they flagged down another, faster, boat which luckily had a nurse aboard.

His uncle Joshua Reeder said on Facebook : “Please pray for my nephew Jameson jr.

“He was in the Florida Keys on vacation with my brother Jameson sr. and Mary Reeder along with his brothers Noah and Nehemiah and sister Eliana.

“They were out on a boat snorkelling along a shallow reef when a very traumatic event occurred and my nephew Jameson jr. was attacked by what they believe to be an 8ft Bull Shark on his leg and took a crushing blow below his knee.

"As he screamed and cried for help while miraculously staying afloat on a noodle my brother Jameson gathered his family on the boat and rushed over to rescue his son.

“They saw Jameson jr holding on for dear life and jumped in to get him on the boat. They tourniquet his leg above the bite to slow/stop the bleeding. Jameson jr. was saying “Jesus will save me, Jesus will save me”.

"As my brother and sister-in-law bravely jumped into action they called for help to a nearby boat that came to help. They had a nurse onboard and had a faster boat"

“They rushed him and his mom Mary to shore as paramedics were called and standing by to help along with a helicopter being ready to airlift him to the hospital.

“He is now out of surgery and resting and has now had the news of what all took place. “But yet he is still strong and in good spirits and will love and tell of this great story to millions of people all over the world of how Jesus spared his life and saved him.”

Joshua set up a fundraiser for his family in the wake of the accident which has so far raised £55,000.

He wrote on the update: “I cannot put into words how good it felt to wrap our arms around my brother Jameson and his wife Mary, and even more importantly to physically hug our precious nephew last night.

“The more we talk together and learn about the facts of how everything unfolded, the more and more evident it appears that it is a pure miracle he is still alive and with us today.

“My brother and sister-in-law are doing really well considering, but need prayer for increased strength, wisdom, and rest in these very moments.”
