A ten-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being struck by stray bullets while peacefully watching television in his own bed at home.
K'Von Morgan was watching TV alongside a friend when he was fatally shot at his home in Petersburg, Virginia.
Sharing his shock at the horrific situation, Police Chief Travis Christian of Petersburg told press: "It makes no sense that a child had to lose his life by being inside his bedroom, doing what he was doing, and preparing to go to bed for the night."
On June 17th, the Petersburg Police Department released a statement about a shooting that occurred at approximately 12:53am.
The statement indicated that a young individual had been struck by gunfire and was in critical condition.
Despite efforts to save him, K'Von, a talented beatboxer, breakdancer, and football enthusiast, could not overcome his injuries and passed away.
His heartbroken uncle has said that he "still had his whole life ahead of him", adding that he was "the light in every dark room".
Police are urging any witnesses to step forward and provide information.
To assist with the expenses of K'Von's funeral, his uncle started a GoFundMe.
At the time of writing, the campaign had already gathered over $3,000 towards its goal of $15,000.
The uncle, Corey Friar, expressed his deep sorrow, introducing himself and sharing the heartbreaking details of the incident.
He told donators that K'Von, a young boy filled with dreams and aspirations, did not deserve such a cruel fate.
Corey mourned the loss of his nephew and described him as a beacon of light, deeply missed by all.
The fundraiser reads (sic): "Hi my name is Corey Friar, my 10 year old nephew K'von was sadly taken from us way to soon, while in his bed watching tv with his best friend when multiple stray bullets came through his window frame an struck him while just trying to be a kid.
"There are no words to express how my family is feeling right now and as we get closer to laying my nephew to rest it just gets harder, my nephew K'von did not deserve this by no means necessary.
He still had his whole life ahead of him and was the light in every dark room, K'von you will be missed tremendously and we will all be screaming #justiceforkvon until #justiceisserved"
As of now, the police have yet to apprehend a suspect, and their search is ongoing.
Police Chief Christian pleaded for the community's assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward.
He said: "We need those fingers pointed at that individual so that we can bring this case to a close and bring that person to justice for the family."
The investigation continues as the community mourns the untimely loss of a young life.
