Boy, 10, dies after 'tragic accident' in school playground in Birmingham

A 10-year-old boy has died following a 'tragic accident' in a school playground.

Police are investigating after Yasir Hussain was fatally injured at Leigh Primary School in Washwood Heath, Birmingham, on Thursday (November 12).

Yasir was taken home but later rushed to hospital after he fell over and hit his head during the school day, Birmingham Live reports.

He died from his injuries in hospital five days later on Tuesday, November 17.

West Midlands Police is investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: "A ten-year-old boy who suffered serious head injuries after falling at school on November 12, sadly passed away yesterday, November 17.

"We are continuing to work with the school to investigate the circumstances leading to this tragic death."

Headteacher Stephanie Prince said Yasir had a "real thirst for learning".

She said in a statement: "We are all so desperately sad that one of our much-loved pupils has died following a tragic accident.

"Yasir was quietly confident, hard-working, and determined to succeed. He had a real thirst for learning and he loved playing with his friends. We all desperately miss him already.

"All our thoughts are with Yasir’s family and friends, and we would respectfully request that their and our privacy is respected at this terribly difficult time.

"We are providing all support possible to our pupils to help them cope with their loss."

Floral tributes were left at the school today.

One bunch of flowers had a note which said: "In loving memory Yassar Hussain."

Another tribute said: "You have been my friend since reception but now you have gone and left us."
