Boxxer Series Event at the M&S Arena Liverpool Review: Is this the new era?

Boxxer held an incredible boxing event at the weekend in Liverpool which saw upcoming boxers compete In a one night elimination tournament.

Eight boxers came to fight at the arena which aired live and exclusively across the UK on Sky Sports.

We took the opportunity to attend the event with Streamline PR to see whether the next generation promotion was a welcomed change in the boxing world- and it was certainly a different experience to what was to be expected.

BOXXER, announced the launch of the BOXXER Series, a new event format which will take thrilling one-night tournament action to every major city in the UK.

The BOXXER Series debuted on Saturday, November 6 at the M&S Bank Arena Liverpool with The Boxxer Series: Super Lightweight Tournament.

The fast, action-packed and unpredictable 3 x 3-minute rounds created such an explosive atmosphere for all attendees as the boxers look for decisive wins to guarantee their passage to the next stage.

While the production of the event was an eye catching thrill with lights, camera and action of any boxing match, there was that new and exciting feel to the extremely fast paced fights which kept us on the edge of our seats.

There was very much so a new generation of fans , with family, friends and mega fans of the participants giving the sport a sense of new direction which we thought was brilliant- and the crowd were loving the entertainment on a whole new level.

Local fighters got the crowds going, which couldn't have been more apparent with us sitting near Liverpool legend Meatball Molly who was basking in the attention from loving fans.

Many of faces were recognisable around us, with young boxers in attendance to see what these new, upcoming talents had to offer- which only helped with the buzz of the crowd.

Sunny Edwards, the British professional boxer who has held the IBF flyweight title since April 2021 was also in attendance and showing his passion for the sport and supporting a fellow fighter who stepped into the ring.

“Our grassroots tournaments have always been hugely popular but to bring this new event series to Sky Sports is a dream come true. We believe the events will be hugely popular for a mass audience and bring something very positive to the sport of boxing in Britain,” said BOXXER founder Ben Shalom.

“The BOXXER Series is about making boxing accessible to everyone. Short-form professional boxing is fast-paced and a great introduction to the sport we love.”

The BOXXER Series will visit every major city in the UK- with the next in London's as part of BOXXER and Sky Sports’ commitment to supporting the sport at grassroots level, creating opportunities for boxers all over the country to compete on the biggest television platform in British boxing.

BOXXER tournaments are the ultimate challenge for any professional boxer. Winning one is an incredible achievement and winners can expect to see their names rocket up the rankings and enter the title shot conversation.

Other notable attendees include Victoria Clay (Britain's next top model also a scouser), Apollonia Llewellyn, Bianca Walkden (British olympian), Lewis Ellis (The Apprentice) and Steph Johnson (scouse bird blogs).

Verdict

Did we think it was a welcomed new era- absolutely.

Production was incredible, the stories and progression of each boxers journey was great to see with passion of the sport still seemingly being a priority for the event holders.

The new boxing fans in todays world will appreciate the fast but controlled new centre stage and, with the help of boxing legends and keeping the spirit of boxing living through this new approach- it's a great experience for someone, like me, who has never been to a boxing match before.

I would say that my main concern going to an event like this was that traditions would be lost in the sports growth but that absolutely wasn't the case.

The next instalment will take place at The SSE Arena, London on November 20 and you can pick up tickets here.
