Boxing news – live: Wilder vs Fury latest, Canelo next fight and more as 'blockbuster' event to be announced

Follow the latest boxing news live today as we recap on Tyson Fury's sensational win over Deontay Wilder last weekend. How does that impact a potential third fight, who will Anthony Joshua face?

Meanwhile, Canelo Alvarez's next fight looks set to be announced with Callum Smith or Billy Joe Saunders lined up for a 2nd May Las Vegas bout.

Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn has also confirmed a 'blockbuster fight' to be confirmed today - and we'll bring you all that and more throughout the day.

Fury-Joshua latest

Rob McCracken, Joshua's trainer, says the super-fight 'must happen'.

"It will be fantastic when they box each other - and they will do, down the line.

"The best fighting the best is what the world wants to see and, certainly, they are the two best heavyweights in the world right now.

"We have two heavyweight champions ruling the world - when could you ever say that, in my lifetime? You never could.

"Big Josh and Tyson have done fantastically well. They are tremendous fighters. What they have achieved is remarkable, in their lives and their sporting careers. It is fantastic for Britain."

Bob Arum offers update on Fury-Joshua

As far as I’m concerned and representing Pulev, we’ve had a meeting of the minds with Eddie on the Joshua fight.

“I think Eddie is holding off on finalizing it. That’s until he makes up his mind on whether he wants the fight to go to Tottenham Spurs stadium or Arsenal Stadium.

"I guess he’s negotiating. But as far as we are concerned, it’s going to be in London. It makes no difference in which stadium the fight takes place."

Dillian Whyte vs Deontay Wilder?

"I'll fight Wilder whether he's got a belt or not, I just wanna fight him to beat him up… Tyson Fury gave him some pathetic body shots that put him down.

"If I started hitting him to the body he might s*** himself in the ring. I saw that happen to a guy once."
Kal Yafai looks to become great

This week, Britain's longest reigning world champion hopes to keep his WBA belt.

Yafai faces Roman Gonzalez, one of boxing's greats in a fight that could send the Brit's reputation through the roof.

"I know I'm a world class fighter, but now it's time to prove I'm an elite fighter.

"I'm not in it to be the longest reigning world champion. I want to be the best world champion we've got."
'Blockbuster fight'

We're still waiting on news for the big fight to be announced by Matchroom Boxing.

Reports indicate it could be Regis Prograis vs Maurice Hooker as both look to regain a foothold in the super-lightweight division.
This is going to be something special!

Tyson Fury to deliver motivational speech?

According to Metro, WBC heavyweight champion Fury has been invited by Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to deliver a motivational speech to his squad.

Fury suffered from a high-profile case of depression which saw him gain weight and lack motivation for life, but was able to return to the boxing ring and is now a mental health ambassador.

Andy Ruiz next fight

“I posted on my Instagram that I’m starting my camp now, and I want to get in shape now.

"I don’t want to wait until the last minute. That’s why I’m starting camp now. He [Al Haymon] did say to me if I wanted to fight this one or that one. I don’t want to say right now [who it is]. I did say, ‘yes,’ of course. And I want to fight in August.

“There are a few guys out there. They mentioned [Luis] Ortiz as well. I want to have a fight before I fight Ortiz. Everybody is talking about me and Ortiz. I think that would be a great fight. If not, if Tyson Fury is looking for somebody, I’m pretty sure."

Big fight alert this weekend as Kal Yafai takes on the legendary Roman Gonzalez.
Yafai is putting his WBA super fly title on the line against the Nicaraguan at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
Joe Joyce has vowed to make Daniel Dubois eat his words in the domestic heavyweight dust-up.

Daniel is talking about me only beating kids and downplaying my achievements. That’s up to him – no problem.

I just hope he’s got good people around him when I beat him because he’s going to be a broken boy on April 11th.

In significant heavyweight news, the WBA have announced a purse bid for the regular belt between 'champion' Mahmoud Charr and challenger Trevor Bryant.
Whoever is mad enough to bid for this must hand the WBA $15,000 and then offer a minimum of $1,000,000.
Let's just hope Anthony Joshua is not tasked with fighting either any time soon.
Wilder-Fury 2 earnings

With reports that Fury-Wilder 2 sold more than 800,000 PPVs in the United States, it's estimated that the amount made on the event just through those purchases is more than $65 million.

The gate at the MGM Grand Garden Arena also broke the Nevada record for a heavyweight bout with $16,916,440.

In other words, the event was a success.

Eddie Hearn update on Fury-Joshua

"I had a good chat with Bob Arum last night. Everybody wants to make Fury-Joshua. I mean, like, everybody.

"You've got to understand these people… I mean, I like a pound note but these guys are savages. So they're sniffing just money everywhere.

"So the strategy is, let's get [Kubrat] Pulev wrapped up and signed and if over the next couple of weeks there's a move – where someone can wait, someone can have a few quid – we would love nothing more than to go into Fury in June or July."
John Fury sends Anthony Joshua warning

"You're a nice guy. You look well, you've got a big future but when it comes down to the beating, fighting lion heart I don't think you've got it.

"So, don't mess with Tyson Fury. Keep your belts, go and fight other people but don't mess with Tyson unless it's worth your while, because let me tell you it'll be the last time you ever box if you mess with him.

"He will wreck you! [He is a] 19 stone, 6ft 9in wrecking machine who will not stop coming forward but he'll come forward at you educated and he'll punish you and he'll school you and he'll break your heart.

"He'll make your life a misery and your life will never be the same again. So, think on. Eddie Hearn that's to you as well."
The Ring top 10

The Ring has released their new pound-for-pound top 10.

Despite Tyson Fury winning the belt for a second time on Saturday night, he has been left out.

1. Canelo Alvarez
2. Vasyl Lomachenko
3. Naoya Inoue
4. Terence Crawford
5. Oleksandr Usyk
6. Errol Spence
7. Gennady Golovkin
8. Juan Estrada
9. Artur Beterbiev
10. Manny Pacquiao
Wilder-Fury 2 fallout

A lot has been made of the costume Wilder wore and the latest to weigh in on the debate is Carl Froch.

"I think you have to laugh, and I think most people have laughed," Froch told Sky Sports.

"They don't take that excuse seriously surely, but it did look heavy. To blame the ring walk costume, for me it's ridiculous.

"Tyson Fury was pretty good on the night and he was landing a lot of punches. I think that's the reason he got beat and not the outfit.”
