Boxing news: Jarrell Miller given ban for failed drugs test before Anthony Joshua fight

Jarrell Miller has been banned for six months by the WBA for his failed drugs tests.

Miller tested positive to three banned substances prior to his June 1 showdown with Anthony Joshua.

The American will be withdrawn from the WBA's rankings and will also have to register with VADA to undergo random testing at his own expense.

His suspension will end on September 19 and Miller must submit those test results if he intends to return to the WBA rankings.

His promoter Greg Cohen suggested the punishment was fair, despite Miller failing three separate drugs tests.

"It's appropriate, and we just look forward to moving on to bigger and better things in the future," he said.

"I don't think he has a choice [but to comply]. Certainly by way of this resolution, he's required to, and I'm sure Jarrell will be compliant with the resolution."

Cohen confirmed Miller would not be looking to fight in any jurisdiction during his ban.

Meanwhile, Joshua is set to face off against Andy Ruiz Jr in New York on June 1.

Ruiz has agreed terms on the fight and Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested an announcement could be made as early as Tuesday.

"He will entertain you, give it his all. Even if it means getting sensationally knocked out, he will rather do that than not do it," Hearn told Fighthype.com.

"I couldn't afford a guy who I thought may not be good enough or game enough to entertain the fans. I had to pick a guy in my heart who I thought will do everything to become world heavyweight champion at the Garden."
