Boxing news: Dillian Whyte makes world title admission as he vows to KO Oscar Rivas

Dillian Whyte has vowed to knock out Oscar Rivas on July 20 - but admitted he’s unsure if a world title shot is beckoning.

Whyte was controversially overlooked by the WBC having been widely tipped to be made mandatory challenger for Deontay Wilder ’s belt.

With his team looking to clarify his position with the WBC, Whyte has refused to remain inactive and has singed up for a tough task against unbeaten former Olympian Rivas (26-0).

After stopping Dereck Chisora in December, he vowed to add another spectacular knockout to his record when he came face to face with his opponent for the first time at a press conference on Monday.

“Everyone I’ve fought have either been hurt, knocked down or knocked out and that’s not going to change on July 20,” Whyte declared.

“Oscar Rivas is coming to fight, we know that, but I’m looking to knock him out.

“I’m all about entertaining the fans, and I’m still learning and I’m still improving.

“What’s the point in fighting someone who there is an 80% chance I’ll knock out in a few rounds?

“There’s no point sitting around when I can improve and develop.

“I’ve got a good team behind me, and the fans fighting the corner as well, giving the WBC stick for the mistreatment.

“But that’s neither here nor there, I want to keep active.

“I could take some time out and just keep training but that’s not what I’m about.

“I want to keep entertaining and keep fighting, and I want to be involved in proper fights.”

Whyte was tipped to fight Anthony Joshua at Wembley this month before the world champion opted to head across the pond for his US debut.

Dominic Breazeale was then installed as Wilder’s mandatory defence leaving Whyte scratching his head and left wondering where he goes next.

“I don’t know,” Whyte conceded when asked if he will fight for a world title this year.

“If I get the chance, 100%, but I don’t know.”
