Boxing news: Conor McGregor responds to Tyson Fury's "game-changer" praise

Conor McGregor has thanked Tyson Fury for his comments after the former boxing world champion hailed the UFC star as a "game-changer".

Fury is preparing to take on Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas next month in his first fight since his controversial draw with Deontay Wilder last December.

And he praised McGregor for his exploits in the Octagon and in the boxing ring.

"I think Conor has transcended the game of MMA," Fury told ESPN. "He’s set precedents, he’s set the game on fire. He’s definitely a game-changer in MMA.

"He’s crossed over, he’s fought Mayweather, he’s become a massive superstar and he should definitely be very proud of himself."

McGregor took to Twitter to respond, saying: The Gypsy King! You are a top man, Tyson! Thank you."

The Irishman has not fought since he was beaten by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov last October.

He is expected to return to the Octagon later this year - and also wants a rematch with Mayweather.

McGregor was stopped in the 10th round of their clash in 2017, the second richest fight in boxing history.

"Originally the promise was that I fought him on his terms, and he then fought me on my terms," he told Tony Robbins.

"I haven’t heard from him since. We’ll see what happens. I would love another go in the boxing ring, to see what happens.

"I know he’s not going to come into my game, but I would love to rematch him under boxing rules again and have that knowledge and my sparring partners coming forward with that style and see where we go

"I believe I would win. Actually, there I go again with that fake humbleness. I know I would win."
