Boxing news: Conor McGregor accused of cheap shot during shock fight in Dublin

Conor McGregor has been accused of delivering a ‘cheap shot’ by the electrician who fought him in a shock boxing match last week.

The UFC superstar is currently banned from competing inside the Octagon following his controversial defeat by Khabib Nurmagomedov in Las Vegas last year.

But he stepped back inside the ropes for the first time since his multi-million dollar bout with Floyd Mayweather in August 2017, when he took on Michael McGrane in an exhibition match at Crumlin Boxing Club.

McGregor, 30, stunned fans after asking trainers at his former boxing club if he could star on their annual ‘Good Friday’ show.

They agreed and paired him with amateur fighter McGrane, a former All Ireland champion after the two had sparred beforehand.

They fought to an entertaining four-round draw with McGregor putting on a “showboating” display.

But McGrane was left with a bruised eye - despite wearing a head guard - and complained that McGregor started the fight in an unsportsmanlike way.

"It was the cheapest shot I ever caught in my life,” he told American website TMZ Sports , referring to the moment MMA legend McGregor clocked him with left hook just seconds into the fight.

"You're meant to go back to your corner, but Conor never went back to his corner.

"The ref was on his side. There's no way I would have won that fight unless I knocked him out."

McGrane reckons McGregor is in prime condition to make a fully-fledged comeback amid rumours that he will have another boxing match before the year is over.

“He looks fit and ready to go,” he said.

“But you still don’t know what he’s thinking or what his plans are for fighting again, you really don’t know.

"It’s hard to know what he’s thinking. He’s a multi-millionaire, he could have anything going through his head, you wouldn’t know.

“He’s in fighting condition anyway, that’s a definite.”
