Young West Mains boxer Chloe Bodwick is buzzing after training with former world champion Ricky Burns during a Scotland camp.
The 17-year-old has recently returned from an international camp in Serbia with Boxing Scotland and the experience has made her hungry for more.
The teenager, recently selected for Scotland’s Elite Boxing squad, was thrilled to be back in the thick of training, despite the near 40 degree heat.
She said: “It was a great experience.
“I had been to a training camp with the Junior squad in Romania but the step up to Elites is a different ball game altogether.
“The boxers are a lot more experienced and every country had world class coaches with them who were great to work with.”
Those world class coaches included three-weight world champion Burns and world top five female boxer Megan Reid, now part of the Scotland coaching team.
It seems that Boxing Scotland is determined to get the sport’s best young talent up to speed quickly as more competition opens up globally.
And Chloe added: “We have more international camps and European competitions coming up this year, so It’s great to get back into action.
“There were boxers from all over Europe there so the sparring was top class and thoroughly enjoyable.”
The coaching team at Boxing Scotland are currently working on the selection of their next generation squad, the group Chloe was promoted from.
So, after a few days rest, she will be back at the Southside Boxing Academy in Glasgow, scaling up her training until the International training kicks in again later this month.
