Boxing legend Johnny Nelson gives up coffee as it makes testicle swell to size of coconut

Former world champion Johnny Nelson has given up coffee - because it makes his testicles swell up.

Nelson, 52, is a pundit for Sky Sports after a successful career in the ring at cruiserweight.

He has revealed how he was concerned after initially noticing a swelling in his trousers when he got his morning caffeine fix.

Nelson sought medical advice and was warned he needed to give up coffee for good.

"I have this problem when I drink coffee. I can’t drink caffeine because one of my balls swells up," Nelson told the Pound for Pound podcast.

"It goes from peanut to coconut. I thought, ‘There’s something not quite right here.’

“So I went to the doctor and he started laughing and said, ‘Well, just don’t drink coffee.’

"So now I just try and stay away from caffeine.”

But Nelson admits he does sometimes need a pick-me-up, adding: "Now and again if you see me walking and I’m shaking a leg out then I’ve had a cup."

Nelson hung up his gloves in 2006 after a successful career that saw him win 45 of his 59 fights.

The Brit held the WBO cruiserweight title for six years, the longest reign of all time.

Away from his punditry duties with Sky Sports, Nelson admits he still enjoys dressing sharply.

He said: “I like a nice fitted suit. Once or twice a year, I’ll get a couple made by a local company in Huddersfield.

“With my physique, it is hard to find one that fits well off the peg. My feet are size 13 so I also struggle to find shoes.”
