
Chairman of the Japan Amateur Boxing Federation Akira Yamane announced Wednesday his decision to resign rom the position over the federation's subsidy misappropriation and unfair judgement scandals.
"I will resign effective today," the 78-year-old said.
In response to 12 specific allegations claimed by prefectural federation senior officials, Yamane has accepted his personal involvement in the mishandling of 2.4 million yen in subsidies provided by the Japan Sport Council to a boxer who competed in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The funds were allegedly shared with two other boxers so that the three would receive the same amount of grant money.
"I ordered" the misappropriation, he has previously said.
