Boxing greats baffled by Sam Eggington's 'crazy' Dennis Hogan pre-fight decision

Australian pundits were left baffled when discussing Sam Eggington infamous pre-fight routine of not watching video footage of his opponents.

The Englishman claimed ahead of his defeat to Dennis Hogan that he had only watched "about 40 seconds" of the Irishman in action.

Kildare native Hogan became a world champion at the third time of asking - and at the age of 37 - by beating Eggington in Newcastle, Australia, on Saturday.

Hogan hand his hand raised in victory after winning via majority decision to claim the IBO super welterweight world title, with the judges scoring the bout 116-112, 116-112 and 114-114.

Australian boxing greats Jeff Fenech and Barry Michael were on punditry duty for Fox Sports and couldn't believe that Eggington hardly watched any footage of Hogan to prepare for the bout.

Fenech said: "I can’t believe his opponent (Eggington) never watched him.

“Because when you’re fighting someone like him (Hogan), you need to watch him. You need to know what you’re up against. Bad move by them.”

Michael added: “That’s hard to believe. What, are you that disinterested you don’t want to see who you’re getting in against? It’s crazy.”
